Mayor's Message

It is with great pleasure that I introduce the 2008 Benalla Festival, a feast of art, music, dance, excitement and entertainment.

Benalla Rural City Council is proud to support this event and thanks the very generous local sponsors whose contributions ensure that events are staged at little or no cost.

Please support them in return.

The festival committee has been working for many months to provide a wide variety of events and deserve our gratitude and thanks for their generous donation of time and expertise.

On with the show.

Benalla Rural City, enjoy your festival!

Cr. Pat Claridge
Mayor, Benalla Rural City

Festival Welcome

Welcome to the 2008 Benalla Festival.

The theme of the festival is "Wings and Wheels" celebrating the centenary of the first vehicle ever to come to Benalla, as well as Benalla's proud aviation history.

The Festival launch will take place on Thursday March 13th 6pm at the Art gallery combined with the opening of "Outskirts", a challenging and thought provoking exhibition by local artists.

Come along; enjoy a drink and some nibbles, as another fantastic festival gets underway.

Highlights around the theme will be the Saturday Street Parade at 12 noon on March 15th with vehicles from every decade since 1908, and a two day static aviation display at Benalla airport featuring flying memorabilia, armoured vehicles, model planes, helicopter and glider joy flights and much more.

There are also dances, concerts, art and photo exhibitions, the very popular kids' day, an African drumming and dance workshop and show, talented local artists and of course a stunning fireworks display.

Most events are free or at little cost.

A free town bus will run on Saturday to ferry people to events.

The Festival will conclude with a magnificent performance of "The Mikado" at BPACC.

Have a great Festival!
